James W. Scheberle, 96, of Evansville, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at Oasis Dementia Care. He was born April 8, 1929 in Watertown, Wisconsin to the late Eugenia (Walsh) and Francis Scheberle.
James graduated from St. Catherine High School in Racine, Wisconsin. He served in the US Air Force as a chief mechanic. James received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Parkside. He retired from JI Case where he built construction equipment such as backhoes and excavators. James was an avid tennis player and played well into his 80's. He was a longtime member of the Tri-State Tennis Club. James was also a longtime member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture. James was also very handy with cars and fully restored two 1966 Ford Mustangs. He loved fishing and the outdoors. James enthusiastically supported all of his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities and cherished time spent with family.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary (James) Walker and Linda Church; sons, Michael (Nancy) Scheberle and Joe (Angee) Scheberle; grandchildren, Joshua (Erin) Church, Brandon Church, Preston Church, Breanna Scheberle, Hannah Scheberle, Justin Scheberle, Gabrielle Scheberle and Olivia Scheberle; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years in 2022, Walton "Babe" Scheberle; son-in-law, Daniel Church; and sisters, Jean Lloyd, Rosemary Mickelson and Dorothy Fink.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd, Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Father Zach Etienne officiating.
Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Oasis Dementia Care and the care team with Gentiva Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of James.
