James Ballard Schindler ("Jim")
September 1, 1944 – June 6, 2025
James Ballard Schindler, lovingly known as Jim, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. A longtime resident of Poway, California, Jim was born on September 1, 1944, and grew up in an Air Force family, spending his early years in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Alabama, before attending high school in Palos Verdes, California.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janet, and his three devoted children: Brandon Schindler and his wife Hanna (children Brontë and Jonah), Cara Reichard and her husband Glenn (children Camille and Jocelyn), and Erin Schraga and her husband Erik (daughter Emilia). He was deeply proud of his family and cherished the time he spent with each of them.
A faithful patriot and devoted father, Jim had a lifelong passion for aviation and technology. He dedicated more than 20 years of his career to Hewlett-Packard, where his innovation and integrity left a lasting impact. In retirement, Jim found joy and purpose in volunteering at nursing homes with his beloved therapy dogs, Skipper and Cocoa-offering comfort, connection, and companionship to those in need.
Jim will be remembered for his sharp mind, his generous heart, and his unwavering love for his family and country. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he so dearly loved.
A graveside service will be held at Dearborn Cemetery to honor and celebrate his life.
