James Schrmack Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home on Mar. 14, 2026.
James J. "Jim" Schrmack, 95, passed peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2016 at Cascadia Care Center in Nampa, Idaho. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley (Fuller) Schrmack. He is survived by his son, Charles Schrmack, daughter, Kathleen Richardson and her husband Larry Richardson, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, generations of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is pre-deceased by his siblings Buddy Schrmack & wife Mary, Elizabeth Pollastri & husband Emilio, Margaret Baxter & husband George, and Roseanne Schrmack, and daughter-in-law Patricia (Flanagan) Schrmack.

Son of the late Charles & Rose (Batysta) Schrmack, Jim was born in Lansing, Ohio on March 20, 1931. Raised in Mutton Hollow Ohio, Jim was a happy, curious kid, and known by his family and friends to enjoy causing a little mischief in his hometown. He graduated from Bridgeport High School and enlisted for military service. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, flying some amazing aircraft for the war effort. He returned home safely, completed studies at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and achieved his degree in Electrical Engineering. Throughout his impressive career, Jim worked at MIT and contributed to the guidance systems for the Apolo programs and spent two decades at Raytheon Company in Sudbury and Northboro, as a high-level manager of U.S. government programs. Jim and Shirley resided in Leominster, where together they raised their family and were active members of their community. During his life, Jim enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling. He went on travel adventures to Alaska, Africa and Isreal to name a few. Jim had a robust passion for cooking. He was proud of many of his own delicious creations and swearing to never give out his secret recipes.

Jim also enjoyed the family of friends he made at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Leominster. He participated in many church activities and fundraising fairs.

One of Jim's greatest passions was serving as a member of the CTE programs at Leominster High School, where he also worked on the Devil Dawgs Robotics Team for twenty years, and made countless friends, all of whom remained dear to his heart.

Jim is most remembered by family, friends, colleagues, and students for his loving, kind character and willingness to help others. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh, usually cracking jokes and bringing smiles to every occasion.

During the last few years of Jim's life, as his health deteriorated, he lived in Idaho with his daughter and her husband. Ultimately, he moved into Cascadia Care Center, where he passed away peacefully. Jim will be greatly missed by so many people who were blessed to have shared any part of their lives with him.

A Calling hour will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 10 until 11AM at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, 750 Union St., Leominster, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11AM. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James Schrmack to: Leominster Veterans Memorial Center, 100 West Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
