James Monroe Scott, 85, affectionately known to many as "Scottie," passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 25, 1939, in Orange County, North Carolina, James lived a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love for both his family and his community.
For over 38 years, he was the owner and operator of Alamance Electric, a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for those around him. His passion for his work was matched only by his dedication to his family, including his beloved wife of over 63 years, Donnie Joette Wilson Scott. Together, they built a life full of cherished memories and unwavering support for one another.
Scottie's interests were varied and vibrant. He took great joy in racing, often spending his weekends at the track, where adrenaline and excitement filled the air. He found solace in gardening and working in his yard, though his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and being able to watch them grow up.
A proud member of Shallowford Christian Church, James served actively in the community. His involvement in the Men's Fellowship, Senior Adult Sunday School Class, and his cherished role in helping with the Brunswick Stew dinners showcased his generous spirit and love for fellowship. He touched the lives of many through his kindness, offering support and camaraderie to his fellow church members.
Left to honor his memory are his wife, Donne Scott, daughter, Joette Murphy, and her husband David, along with his grandchildren, Taylor Laine Murphy Smith and her husband Stephen, and Chase Montgomery Murphy. He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis Scott and Hattie Allison Scott, great granddaughter, Madalynn Grace Satterfield as well as his sister, Katie Lee Scott, and brothers Charlie Hayes Scott, Arthur Tom Scott, Joe Forrest Scott, and Robert Lewis Scott.
