James Scribner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Chapel - Anacortes on Oct. 15, 2024.
James "Jim" Alton Scribner, Jr., 80, of Friday Harbor, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024 at home with his wife by his side.
James Alton Scribner, Jr. was born on October 6, 1943 to Alton and Pauline Scribner. He came from a long time San Juan Island pioneering family.
He enjoyed all sports; playing many over the course of his life including basketball, baseball, golf, racquetball, and of course, pool, which he played on his grandfather's antique pool table. Jim loved music and dancing and often played his records on the family record player. He enjoyed playing cards and all cards games. Seahawks football was a passion and he never missed watching a game. Jim had a competitive spirit; loving a good win and hating a loss.
Jim will be remembered for serving the island community as the butcher and custom meat cutter; first in the family market and later in his own shop and at many farms throughout the islands. He is also remembered for his time as a Mason; joining the San Juan Lodge 175 in 1992 and serving as Grand master in 1998.
In his retirement years Jim spent time at the family cabin on the Methow River and went on many motorcycle trips with his wife. One of his favorite trips was a three-week road trip enjoying all the sites in South Dakota. He also enjoyed woodworking and the firewood cutting to keep busy.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Scribner, his brothers, Trim and Creige; as well as his children: James III (Margo), Daniel (Darcie), Heath Ray (Lara), Ron Howard (Lisa), Terri Brown (Tom); his grandchildren: Rachel, Megan, Mackenzie, Laura, Dustin, Hanna, Devon, and many much-loved great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, on October 26, 2024 at Valley Cemetery, Friday Harbor.
