James P. “Jimmy” Shannon, of Braintree, died peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 70.
James was born in Syracuse, New York on May 26, 1954, and was the son of the late Charles John and Dorothy May (Kelley) Shannon. He was raised in New Jersey, and Pembroke, Massachusetts, attended local schools, and graduated from Silver Lake High School in Kingston. Following high school, James attended Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, and later attended UMass Amherst for political science.
James had a long career in the auto industry. He worked in various dealerships in the area with the longest stay at Mirak Chevrolet in Arlington where he was the General Manager. He loved selling trucks and working in the auto industry. James retired in 2020 after 34 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed driving for Uber. Even in the hospital he was still doing his best to get the staff into Chevrolets.
In his spare time, James enjoyed playing golf, exercising, riding his motorcycle, taking his boat out, video games, sports, and shopping. He also loved spending time with friends and family. His generosity, competitive spirit, and sense of humor was admired by all. James was a member of the Old Colony Yacht Club in Dorchester and a member of the Quincy Elks.
James was the beloved husband of Carol E. (Morris) Shannon, with whom he shared many loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Lauren Shannon and her partner Earnest Covington of Brockton, Patrick Shannon and his wife Jennifer of Hopkinton, and Colin Shannon and his fiancée Isidora Varela Alessandri of Weymouth. James was the loving grandfather of Liam Shannon of Hopkinton. He was the dear brother of Brian Shannon and his wife Mary Ann of Florida, Steven Shannon and his wife Cindy of California, Noreen Richards and her husband Jim of Florida, and Kathleen Smith and her husband John of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, August 12, 2024, 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, prior to the Funeral Mass in Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth, at 10:30 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
