James Thomas Sharkey, 78 of Little Egg Harbor, NJ passed away at home on Monday September 1st,2025 surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Jersey City, NJ and spent time living in Bergen County, NJ before moving to Little Egg Harbor in 1985. James worked as the Supervisor of Special Education for McKinley Elementary School and Waretown School. He was a graduate of Riverdell Highschool class of 1965 where he met his wife. James received his bachelor's degree from University of Arizona in Tucson,AZ , and finally his master's degree in special education from The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his parents James and Rita Sharkey, son Timothy Michael Sharkey and brother Tom Sharkey.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 56 years, son James P Sharkey of West Creek, NJ, daughter Maura J. Fegel and husband Gerald of Kingsland, GA, brother Brian Sharkey and wife Maurene, sisters Suzanne Valla and husband Eugene, Jeanne Lovett, Rita Lyons and Marybeth Sharkey and husband Jack, grandchildren Emily, James D., Sean and Olivia and loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday September 6th,2025 from 10am until his Memorial Service at 11:45am at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd. Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087.
