James Sinnott Obituary

Sinnott, James Edward

July 29, 1942 - January 15, 2026

James Edward Sinnott, 83, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 15, 2026. Born on July 29, 1942, in St. John's, Newfoundland, James lived a full life defined by service, family, and an unwavering love of the outdoors. At the age of 21, James entered the United States Army on May 24, 1963, joining the 101st Airborne Division. He served bravely in Vietnam in 1965, earning both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his courage and sacrifice. After two decades of honorable service, he retired as a Sergeant First Class. His sense of duty and perseverance continued into civilian life, where he spent another 20 years with the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority before retiring once again. In addition to his strong work ethic and devotion to duty, James was known for his cheerful spirit and his deep love for his home and family. A passionate outdoorsman, James found joy in hunting and in the camaraderie of shooting sporting clays, often competing with a friendly grin and steady aim. He was an active member of the Hamburg Rod and Gun Club, where his good nature and storytelling were well known. Married to his beloved wife, Adelheid "Heidi" Schmalzriedt, for 54 years, the two shared a life rich with laughter, memories, and mutual respect. James is survived by Heidi, his children Brenda Stafford (Robert), Daniel Schmalzriedt (Karin), Carmen Lamonica (Edward), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward. A burial service with military honors will be held on January 28 at 12:30 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. Visitors are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in James's Memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.brownandsonsfuneral.com.
