James K. Smallwood was born July 10, 1939 in Pottsville, PA to mother Ruth and stepfather James, with one sibling, Preston Reeves. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, training as a medic. He also became an all-Navy boxer. After an honorable discharge he was employed with the U.S government. While working for the government, he met his former wife, Delores C. Burris. Out of this union they had two children, Tony and Tammie. After retiring with 20 years of dedicated service, he happily resided in Alexandria, VA, enjoying his sports, being with family and friends and exercising regularly. The party didn’t start until James arrived. With that infectious smile, he was an awesome father and father-in-law, as well as a wonderful grandfather who loved spending time with his nieces, cousins and friends, who he loved deeply. His generosity and love of family will never be forgotten.
Love you, Pop.
He is survived by his son Tony; daughter-in-law Angie; grandchildren Tariq Smallwood and Christina Smallwood; former wife Delores Smallwood; many step grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and close friends.
