James B. Smetana, 68, of Chicago, at peace April 25, 2025. Beloved son of the late Nancy nee Nelles and the late James Smetana. Loving brother of Lynn Smetana. Dear nephew of Priscilla (the late John) Perles. Cherished cousin and friend to many. James was a member of the Pen & Ink Writers Group.

Celebration of Life Service for James and Nancy Smetana will be held on July 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Acacia Park Lutheran Church 4307 N. Oriole Ave. Norridge, IL. 708-453-3662 or acaciaparkchurch.com

The world will not be the same without Jim in it. Many years ago, when I met him in an art class at Illinois State, I knew immediately he was extraordinarily special. Jim especially loved writing, art, music and books . . . and I learned so much from him.
Jim is healed and healthy now - reunited with his parents and in the glorious presence of our Lord.
Thank you for everything, Jim. You are so missed.
