Funeral services for James Stanley Smith, Jr., age 74 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Dudley Baptist Church with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Gerald Frazier will officiate.

Mr. Smith was born January 16, 1951, in Macon, Georgia. He was the son of the late James Stanley Smith, Sr. and Louise Shepherd Smith Hulett. He was a graduate from Willingham High School, Mercer University Undergrad and Mercer Law School. He had a very successful legal career where he served his community in many capacities. He served as a lawyer, a Juvenile Court Judge for years as well as a Superior Court Judge. In total, he served over 33 years of State Service. In his early career, he served as the 1st Assistant District Attorney under District Attorney Beverly B. Hayes. He was a senior founding partner with Smith Dixon Law Group, LLC. He was also an original founder of Drug Court in Dublin. He served as Chief Judge of the Dublin Judicial Circuit as well as Administrative of the 8th Judicial Circuit. The only things matching his love of law were watching his grandkids play sports and spending time with family at Lake Sinclair. He was a member of Dudley Baptist Church and the Dublin Bar Association. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Emory Saint Joseph Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Annette Long Smith of Dublin; 2 sons, Wade (Carrie) Smith of Dudley and Dallas Christian of Dublin, 2 brothers, Steve (Melba) Smith of Macon and Jamie (Susan) Hulett of Macon; a sister, Vickie Hulett of Macon; 5 grandchildren, Walker Boatright, Bella Boatright, Cooper Smith, Wytherly Christian, and Bax Christian; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be the Georgia State Patrol Post #20.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the funeral home.

Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.

Kenny and I send our deepest sympathies to Stan's family. Stan was a very kind, gentle and fair person. He will be missed by his Key Class Sunday school members and friends . He will also be missed in the judicial circuit where he was a good and fair lawyer and judge.
