James Robert (Smitty) Smith, 76 of Commerce, GA., passed away July 16, 2024. He was the son of the late Chevalier Bayard & Jemina Bales Smith. He was also preceded by a brother, Emerson Edward Smith. He was a real estate broker in the Athens area for many years. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and going to events where his grandchildren were involved. He never missed a chance to watch his one and only "doc" play softball.
A visitation will take place Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Lord & Stephens, East. The family will have a private graveside service.
Survivors include: Wife, Patti Smith; son and daughter, Timothy (Jenna) Phillips and Lauren Smith; grandchildren, Mason Phillips, Ethan Phillips, Owen Phillips, Evan Phillips, Madyson Smith, and Zach Smith; a niece, Sandi Smith.
