James Oliver Snelson, age 82, resident of Tulsa, OK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was born on July 31, 1943, in Wagoner County, OK to George Oliver and Thelma Fay (Sanders) Snelson. James's life was a testament to his enduring kindness, work ethic, and devotion to his family.
James grew up in Coweta and attended Coweta Public Schools, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of community. His career spanned an impressive 50 years in the dental field, where he was highly respected and retired as a Service Manager at Burkhart Dental Supply. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated professional who always went above and beyond to ensure the best service was provided.
Outside of work, James was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years, with a particular love for fishing and camping. He was also an exceptional pool player and was known among friends and family as the best marble shooter. His competitive spirit was always in good nature and brought joy to those around him. He enjoyed morning fellowship with the Donut Shop Gang until he was no longer able to attend due to caring for his wife.
James's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverley Kay Snelson of Tulsa, OK; his children, Lisa Mefford and husband Billy of Coweta, OK, Ashley Snelson and husband Kenneth of Tulsa, OK, Candice Ehmen of Tulsa, OK, and Bryan Weston and wife Shelly of Sapulpa, OK; 12 grandchildren, Jake Replogle, Cheyenne Thomas, Davon Jackson, Montie Thomas, Makala Smith, DaiShawn Smith, Luke Ehmen, Keith Weston, Katie Bunch, Chad Weston, Aimee Gregory, and Caleb Weston; 14 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Brodie, Ensley Jaymes, Ray Steel, Mick, Oaklynn Fay, Tate James, Landon, Blakely, Teagan, Addison, Graham, and Clark; his brother, John Snelson and wife Carmen of Coweta, OK; his sister, Neice Rainbolt and husband Bryan of Wagoner, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
James was preceded in death by his parents, George Oliver Snelson and Thelma Fay (Sanders) Sharp and his brothers, Gary Snelson and Billy Kaiser.
A man of faith, James was a faithful husband who cherished his Sundays with Kay, attending church together and enjoying their traditional lunch afterward, a ritual they lovingly observed for 37 years. His commitment to his faith and family was unwavering and served as a guiding light for all who knew him.
Visitation for James will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Brown's Funeral Service in Coweta, OK. A graveside service to honor his life will take place at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK, with Tony Holmes officiating.
