Ishpeming, MI – James Allen (Jim) Solka, age 89, a longtime resident of National Mine, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility. He was surrounded by the loving care of his family, UP Home Health and Hospice, and the compassionate staff at MCMCF.

Jim was born in Ishpeming, Michigan, on November 2, 1935, the son of the late Paul and Helen (Hill) Solka. He attended the National Mine School and proudly served in the Michigan National Guard.

Throughout his life, Jim worked a variety of jobs, including positions at Bergeron Distributors and Robbins Flooring, before retiring from the Department of Public Works in Milltown, Wisconsin. He. was a former member of the Tilden Township Club.

A true outdoorsman, Jim found great joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He spent countless hours cutting firewood, working in the woods, feeding and watching deer, and relaxing at camp. He was an avid deer hunter and bagged 103 antlered deer throughout his life. He loved going for rides in the woods with his son Al, and especially to their camp. He also loved throwing horseshoes and was especially fond of fly fishing-a skill he learned from the late John Voelker. Cribbage was another favorite pastime, particularly when played with his cherished friend and cribbage partner, John Matson.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Sherry Solka (Dave Delongchamp); son, Allen (Kathy) Solka; brother, Thomas Solka of Florida; grandchildren: Stephen Hebert, Shane Hebert, and Sherrell (Clay) Koski; several great-grandchildren; special nephews, Dean and Jeff Solka; and special great-nephew, Cody Solka. He is also remembered fondly by many other nieces, nephews, and friends. He was affectionately referred by many as "Uncle Jim".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Louise; his sister, Pauline Rosten; and brother, Conrad Solka, and grandson Shamon Hebert.

In keeping with Jim's wishes, no formal services will be held.

Memorials in Jim's honor may be directed to his family c/o his son Allen Solka
