Lacey, Washington - With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of James A Sonn, who departed this world on August 27, 2024, in Lacey, Washington. Born on December 12, 1942, in Tacoma, Washington, James lived a life enriched by service, love, and community.
James spent his early years in Tacoma, attending Lincoln High School. He later pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Washington State University, setting the stage for a distinguished career. Following his academic achievements, James took on the role of a marketing director for U.S. West, where he left an indelible mark through his dedication and expertise.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, James served two tours and invested 26 years in the U.S. Navy, including both active duty and reserves. His service to the nation was a testament to his unwavering commitment and courage, qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
James was known as an honest and soft-hearted man, whose kindness touched everyone he encountered. His honesty was a guiding principle, reflected in his professional and personal life alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, James was an avid outdoorsman and a chef. He was also known for his cooking skills and the meals he created for his friends and family. His love for fishing and duck hunting formed some of his most cherished memories. No voyage brought him more joy than those he undertook aboard his fishing boat, aptly named "Aerie." For over 15 years, "Aerie" carried James on countless adventures to the waters of Sitka, Alaska, where he found peace and thrill alike.
James leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife, Nancy West Sonn; his son, James A Sonn Jr.; and his sisters, Ruth Hinz and Mary Sonn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Albert Sonn.
The final farewell will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery, where James will be laid to rest. Details for the ceremony will be shared in due course, and those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to do so through the appropriate channels.
James A Sonn's life was a testament to dedication, honesty, and passion. He will be deeply missed and always remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
