James Michael Sorrells was born on October 20, 1955 in
Houston, Texas and left us on June 1, 2024 at the age of 68. James (Jimmy, Jim, or Bud – more commonly) was born to Joe Washington Sorrells, a World War II veteran, and Dorothy Ruth Tibbs Sorrells, a homemaker. He was the middle child of three who enjoyed growing up in Pasadena and Magnolia.
He and his brother, Donny, spent endless hours in Pasadena riding and taking care of horses.
When he moved to Magnolia with his family he enjoyed riding horses for a while, then riding his motorcycle, and learning all he could about car parts and repairs.
Jimmy married Rhonda Westinghouse in September of 1976 and they were married for 44 years. They had two daughters together, Elizabeth Nicole Sorrells and Heather Michelle Neeley. He was a devoted father who made time for awards and recognitions, sports events and was always ready at Rhonda's request with the video camera. He dropped everything when his girls needed him, whether they were 4, 14, or 44. His daughters also gifted him with five grandchildren, four boys and one girl. He enjoyed taking the boys for tractor rides, fishing, letting them play in the sand hill, and giving them some tools to figure out. And he had no problem playing dolls or having a tea party with his granddaughter.
Jimmy enjoyed amateur flying when he was young. He loved learning Spanish at Tomball Community College with his father and getting that extra time with him. His father was a hero of his and he often recounted stories of his father's youth to his children. He was the bar-b-que master for many family and friend summer holiday gatherings that he and Rhonda hosted. And every Mother's Day he made a steak for Rhonda, his mother-in-law, and his girls.
A camping trip turned into an annual Thanksgiving tradition with his parents, siblings and all the children which gave him great joy. He got to be out in nature and most importantly spend time with his family. One of the favorites of the outing included cooking a meal underground-hobo dinner--always ending up with a little sand in your dinner.
Jimmy started his career in automotive sales and moved up as a manager of multiple automotive stores. He got an itch in the early 2000's to be his own boss and worked as a Locksmith until he passed. He always wanted to know how things worked and was able to fix almost anything.
His family is devastated that he can't fix this, but we know that where he is, all is mended. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Dorothy Sorrells, spouse Rhonda Sorrells, and grandson Cash Sorrells. He is survived by daughters Elizabeth (Nici) Sorrells and Heather Neeley; his cherished grandchildren, Carter Sorrells, Cannon Sorrells, Fitz Neeley and Jovie Neeley; his loving siblings, sister Paula Sorrells-Beene and husband Ed, and brother Donald Sorrells and wife Georgia as well as his four nephews.
A visitation hour is scheduled for 9am on June 11, 2024. Service will begin at 10am. Services will be held at Klein Funeral Home located at 1400 Main Street in Tomball Texas.
