"Sonny" James Robert Splawn, 71, of Waxhaw, NC passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023. He was born in Union County, NC on September 19, 1951 son to the late L.C. Splawn and Grace Helms Splawn.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, February 10, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trail Fairview Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079, the family will receive friends following the service and at other times at his sisters home.
Sonny was a US Army Veteran who served two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret and loved his country.
He was employed by the town on Waxhaw in the Public Services Department and loved his job, the people he worked with and served. Sonny loved to do things for his family and friends. He would be the first to step up with a smile on his face when someone needed help with anything. He enjoyed cooking and sharing food with anyone when a need or opportunity arose. Sonny loved animals and was known to some as the "dog whisperer". Sonny will be greatly missed, but will be in our hearts always.
He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Powles Splawn, daughter Celeste Splawn Baucom (Darren), son Chad Splawn (Lisa), step daughter Tiffany Powles Saunders (Tim), three sisters, Gracie Hargett (Skipper), Brenda Simpson, Sue Johnson, four grandchildren, Kenneth Baucom (Brittany), Sawyer Baucom (Chrissy), Camden Baucom and Amaeya Saunders and three great grandchildren, Magnolia Baucom, Crew Baucom and Owen Baucom.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758516 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
