Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. - Utica on Jun. 11, 2025.
UTICA – Mr. James Spratt, Jr., affectionately known as "Dink," passed away peacefully just two days shy of his 50th birthday on Saturday, June 7, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of those dearest to him. Dink's presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone privileged to know him.
Born in Utica on June 9, 1975, James was the proud son of James Spratt, Sr. and the late Ann Elizabeth Harvey-Sheppard. He was raised and educated in the Utica City School District. During his school years, he excelled in track, displaying the determination and drive that would come to define his character. His infectious spirit and competitive edge carried into many aspects of his life, including his great love for dancing, rapping, and playing bingo, where he found joy, camaraderie, and excitement.
Above all, Dink's greatest pride was his family. He will be remembered for his unshakable loyalty, his sense of humor, and his ability to light up a room with his presence. He had a heart that welcomed many and a resilience that inspired all who knew him.
Dink is survived by his father, James Spratt, Sr.; and his beloved children, Christopher Bradley (Rochester), Tykeisha Spratt, Tra'Quan Spratt, Jerrion Turnbull, Mahkaylah Mezza, James Spratt, III, and Kadyn Spratt, all of Utica. His role as a father was central to his identity, and his children will carry forward his memory with love and strength. He is also survived by his siblings, Roshan Harrison (Houston, TX), Stephanie Gray, and Steven Gray (both of Utica); and by his devoted partner, Patricia Brown of Utica, whose love and support remained steadfast throughout. He also leaves to cherish his memory, Crystal Wright, the devoted friend whose unwavering support was a meaningful presence in his life; and a host of family and friends.
Dink was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ann Elizabeth Harvey-Sheppard; his siblings, Lakeisha Spratt, and Stanford Lee Gray III; his precious daughter, Ann Marie Bradley; and sons, Rah'man McCants, and Malakai Spratt. He was also reunited in eternal rest with his maternal grandparents, Doris Herron, Dan DeLoach, Sr., and Nazaree Fails; and his paternal grandparents, Lindell "Frying Pan" Reed, Sr. and Millie L. Spratt.
A special thank you is due to Jenna-Rai Calabrese, Ashley Miller, and Jenna Jackson in the Intensive Care Unit at The Wynn Hospital for all their hard work and dedication at this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. James' Home Going Service and celebration of life will commence at 12:00 p.m. Those unable to attend may be present virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89389032868.
