James Stahl III

James Matthew "Matt" Stahl III, 63, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1962, in Indianapolis to the late James Matthew Stahl Jr. and Mary Ethel (Liosi) Stahl.

Matt was a 1980 graduate of John Marshall High School. He spent 25 years working for McDonald's and later retired from LabCorp after 27 years of dedicated service. Creative, funny, and full of personality, Matt had a unique way of showing his affection-often through good natured teasing. Though he went by Matt, his family lovingly knew him as "Babby Huey."

He loved animals, had a passion for all kinds of food, and especially enjoyed pizza and Pepsi. His parents quickly learned to buy groceries daily, knowing that if food was in the house, Matt would happily eat it all. His greatest joy in life was his nieces and nephews, whom he adored and cared for deeply. He will be remembered for his humor, his big heart, and the love he shared with those around him.

Matt is survived by his siblings, Suzanne Hunter (preceded in death by Mark Hunter and Dean Carroll), Anthony L. (Doanie) Stahl, and Samuel J. (Nina Claborn) Stahl; nieces and nephews, Nicholas (Sarah Clayton) Carroll, James (Gloria) Carroll, Angela (David) Wade, Miranda Vaughn, Lacey Huett, and Candace (Tyler) Watson; and great nieces and nephews, James, Jacob, and Leah Carroll, Tony Huett, Riley, Jaxson, and Nolan Stahl, Mariah Vaughn, and Marianna Watson.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, March 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. in Holy Name Catholic Church with Fr. Bob Robeson presiding. Prayers will be said at the funeral home prior to Mass at 1 p.m. Inurnment will take place in Catholic Cemeteries on a later date.
