James Staton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Home, Inc. - Paterson on Jul. 5, 2024.
James Earl Staton Jr. was born on October 25, 1982, in Paterson, NJ to James and Linda Staton. James, affectionately known as "Buke" was so eager to make his grand entrance into the world that he didn't wait until they arrived at the hospital. He was born in the back of the ambulance on the corner of Main & Oliver Street.
He attended the Paterson Public School System and was a proud Alumni of John F. Kennedy High School where he played Freshman Football.
James had a deep love for music. During his teen and young adult years, he often blasted Jay-Z for everyone to hear. As he matured and his music taste evolved, he would be found listening to Neo-Soul and R&B jams. He also had a love for cars and would frequent the car shows at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in NYC. You could always count on him to add flashy details to his own latest car.
James loved wearing fitted caps, sneakers, fashion and his favorite Football team was the New York Jets. He was the king of playing pranks and he had a smile that would light up any room.
James also loved the Lord and accepted Christ into his life at an early age. He was a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ and stood as his father's right hand in the ministry. In 2022, he was ordained as an Elder in New Stanton, PA.
He loved his family and adored his parents and siblings. He had a special bond with his nieces and nephews, but his greatest joy was his children. They meant the world to him, and he cherished their milestones and the time he shared with them.
James worked in many capacities. He held positions as a Shipping & Receiving Tech, Glazier, Iron Worker, Logistics Coordinator, Housing Zone Inspector and Tower Tech. Most recently, he worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
On Saturday, June 29, 2024, James departed this life suddenly at Tidal Health Hospital in Seaford, DE.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mitchell Sr. and Rose Staton, Frank Sr. and Flora Turner; beloved uncle whom he called his twin, Joseph Turner; godfather, Elder David Alston and Lyric Staton.
James leaves to cherish fond memories to his parents; James and Linda Staton; children, Sanyah Staton and Lance Staton; adopted son, Malachi Hughley; siblings, Sidney Turner (Sharhonda), Laura Staton, and Devon Peace-Alston (Culliptus); nieces and nephews, Jahnai, Zair, William, Sidney II, Jordan, Jaivon, Joshua, Savannah, and Halley; god sisters, Jocelyn, Stevenie, Yolanda, Devonna and Janell; godmother, Diana Alston; special friend, Kryssie Bradshaw and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
James left a lasting impression on all whom he encountered and while we loved him wholeheartedly, God loved him best
