James L. Steiner, Sr., age 89, of East Palestine, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on April 4, 1936, in South Beaver Township, PA, son of the late Nicholas and Philomena White Steiner.
He had worked as a superintendent for the former Babcock and Wilcox. He also worked at the International Mill Service in Weirton, WV. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, East Palestine. Jim enjoyed working in his garage, hunting, horseback riding, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elma Eileen Gumpf, whom he married on October 18, 1956; his children, Patricia (Terry) Zocolo of East Palestine, Linda (Scott) McLain of Chippewa, PA, James L. (Mary Ann) Steiner, Jr. of East Palestine; three grandchildren, Craig (Danielle) Ward, Samantha (Andy) Johnson, Benjamin (Ashley Hughes) Steiner; six great grandchildren, Jayden Ward, Kendall Ward, Greycen Johnson, Kaycie Johnson, Adam Steiner, Nicholas Steiner; two step great-grandchildren, Collin Holbrook, Benjamin Rudloff; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Eberhart and Philomena Foley, and two brothers, Francis Steiner and Regis Steiner and his beloved dog, Lucky.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:00 am at the St. Monica Church part of Saint Augustine Parish with Father Kim J. Schreck officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
