Mr. James Emmett Stepp Sr., age 78 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Putnam Stepp of the home, his children, Angela Greene (Mike) of Lattimore, NC, James “Jimmy Possum” Stepp Jr. of Boiling Springs, NC, and Michelle Spurling of Shelby, NC, five grandchildren, Alec Senter of Boiling Springs, NC, Corey Greene (Christina) of Lattimore, NC, Casey Greene of Apex, NC, Seth Spurling of Shelby, NC, and Sara Spurling of Shelby, NC, and three great grandchildren.
Born September 5, 1944, in Transylvania County, NC, James was the son of the late Emmett M. Stepp and Stella Brooks Stepp and was preceded in death by five siblings, Betty Wall, Dell Harris, Max Stepp, Evelyn Blanton, and Beattie Rayfield.
James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, watching racing, wrestling, boxing, football, and spending time with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm Friday May 26, 2023, at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Rev. Jimmy Black. A visitation will be held from 2:00pm – 3:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
