James Wesley "Jimmy" Stewart July 3, 1953 - July 4, 2025
James Wesley "Jimmy" Stewart, 72, died on July 4, 2025. He was born to the late Irene Smith and Willie Charles Stewart on July 3, 1953, in Newark, NJ. He graduated in 1972 from Buchtel High School in Akron, OH and immediately began an apprenticeship in construction. Four years later, he became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 (IUOE Local 18) helping to build the roads and bridges of Ohio for 37 years. He retired in 2009 to Decatur, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Reginald Stewart and Michael Stewart. Jimmy is survived by his brothers, Donald (Francis) Harris, Edgar Harris, and Fayyaadh LaTeef.
Additionally, he is survived by his children, Reginald James Stewart, Trent (Robin) Burley, James (Melanie) Burley, Shanta Grant, and Zakiyyah Stewart, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jimmy was a huge sports fan; he loved his Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers and would frequently visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
His remains have been cremated, and the family asks for privacy during this difficult time. We will have a private memorial in Ohio at a later time.
