James (Jim) Edward Stewart, quietly departed this life on July 11, 2025 surrounded by his family after a long illness.

Jim was born July 9, 1938 to Lamont Stewart and Mary (Vanderburg) Stewart in Mooresville NC. Jim lost his father at an early age, but was blessed to have his stepfather, James Carr Jr enter his life at a young age. Although he was his mother's only child Jim was also blessed to have two step siblings, Bessie Mae Carr and Jerry Carr.

Jim attended public schools in Mooresville and Davidson, NC. In 1957, he graduated from Torrence Lytle High School in Huntersville, NC. Jim excelled as an athlete on the basketball and football teams and was well-liked by teammates and classmates. After high school, Jim joined the United States Army where he served as a clerk until receiving an honorable discharge in 1962.

On August 13, 1965 Jim married the love of his life, Annie Reid. From this union came one son, Carl Stewart. Jim was a loving husband, devoted father and excellent provider for his family. He was also the cook of the house, often preparing meals from old recipes of his beloved mother.

In 1967, Jim started his 21-year career with United Parcel Service (UPS). Jim's management position required him to relocate to Lubbock Texas in 1970. After two short years in Texas, his next assignment moved the family to Las Cruces, New Mexico. The family returned to Lubbock in 1978 and remained there until his retirement from UPS in 1988. After retirement Jim and Annie relocated back to North Carolina where the family still resides.

Jim was a sports enthusiast who believed in staying physically fit and often started each day with a mile jog. Family friend, Jack Johnson introduced Jim to golf when he was in high school which led to golf becoming his second love. He eventually became a scratch golfer. In addition to golf, Jim was an avid bowler and looked forward to weekly bowling with the local leagues.

Jim had a strong faith and trust in God. As a lifelong member of Reeves Temple AME Zion Church in Davidson NC, he served as Preacher Steward for many years. He was a Trustee Board Member, Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society (WH&OMS) Life Patron, member of Men's Boosters which is now known as Men of Zion, Christian Education Director, Sunday School Superintendent and Adult Sunday School Teacher.

Family was important to him and finding ways to spend quality time together was a primary focus. Whether it was a day trip to the lake, bowling outings, a night of pinochle at home or the yearly, two-day drive across country from Texas to North Carolina, Jim enjoyed being with family.

Jim is survived by his wife Annie Stewart, son Carl Stewart (Tami), step-grandson Brannon Wright of Fort Washington, MD, step-sister Bessie Mae Carr of Mount Vernon, NY and a host of family and friends.
