James Donald Stewart

Jim Donald Stewart passed away October 12th, 2025, at the age of 79 surrounded by his family. Jim was born on February 16, 1946, in Gastonia North Carolina to the late Claude Eugene Stewart and Novella McGinnis Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers: Eugene "Gene" Stewart, Dean "Rip" Stewart and Charles "Cookie" Stewart.
Jim graduated from Ashley High School in Gastonia, NC.
After high school, he enlisted into the military and was sent to Fort Knox for advanced training to become a Scout. After Scout training, Jim became a drill sergeant at the Scout Facility where he began training others. Jim was then sent to Vietnam and served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, under the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment, known as Black Horse.
During this time, Jim earned a Bronze Star Medal for distinguishing himself by outstanding meritorious service in connection with military operation against a Hostile Force, in the Republic of Vietnam.
Following the military, Jim went to work for Public Service Gas Company aka Scana, in Gastonia, NC where he was employed for 44 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan Stewart. Daughter, Jena Stewart Jenkins, son-in-law Trey Jenkins and grandson, Tucker Jenkins of Belmont, NC. Son, Jim Stewart of Gastonia, and granddaughters, Tori Stewart and Kati Stewart and grandson, Ryan Stewart all from Clover SC.
Jim enjoyed golfing and fishing and loved his dog, Colton. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and will be missed by many.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday; October 18th at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052. Receiving of friends will take place prior beginning at 10:00 with service following at 11:00. Rev. Mark Forbes of Living Hope Church of Belmont will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of James Stewart.
