James Phillip Stiles, 82, passed away at his Washington residence during the afternoon of August 12, 2025. He was born on March 22, 1943, in Loogootee, the son of Albert and Louise (Van Hoy) Stiles. On June 15, 1966, Phill married Mary Kay (Clark) Stiles and they made their home together until she passed away on April 6, 1985.
Phill was a 1961 graduate of Washington Catholic High School. He went on to serve his country honorably from 1961 until 1964 in the United States Navy. He was a Viet Nam veteran. In 1990, Phill retired from the Ameritec Publishing Company, and later worked at Jasper Engines and Bill Dobson Ford. He was a member of: Our Lady of Hope; the Knights of Columbus and was an evangelical minister at St. Simon. Phill was a recipient of the Brute Award given by the Catholic Diocese of Evansville.
With his love of the outdoors, Phill was an avid golfer and enjoyed shooting at the Washington Conservation Club.
Those who now cherish Phill's memory include his sons: Jeffrey (Amy) Stiles of Zionsville and Tim (Crystal) Stiles of Washington; grandchildren: Joshua Stiles, Zachary (Sydney) Stiles, Aleeya Stiles, Monika Stiles, Mariska Stiles, Quentin Stiles, Shirley Stiles, Brandon Sheley; and two sisters: Judy Ann Brewer of Washington and Kathleen (Ben) Rohlfing of Lebanon.
During his lifetime, Phill mourned the loss of his parents, Albert and Louise Stiles; wife, Mary Kay Stiles; brother, Richard Stiles; sister, Jane McAtee and brother-in-law, Bob McAtee.
