Jim was born September 30, 1941, to Mary Jane Gilliland and Virgil Perry Stimmel, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Shirley, Norma Jean, Bud, and Frank, and his stepbrother Denny. He is survived by his brothers Jeff and Greg, and stepbrothers Butch and Cliff.
On February 14, 1963, Jim married Patricia Robinson. Together, they raised four children: Pam Busboom (Derek) of Tipp City, Tess Rieger (Tony) of Ottoville, Charlotte Meyer (Dean) of Ottawa, and Jim Stimmel (Connie) of Lima.
He was the grandfather of Patti (Steve), Ashley (Shawn), Jessi, Kari, Emily (Tom), Zack (Grace), Jacob, Jamie (Colin), and Josh, as well as bonus grandchildren Emily, Beau, and Jake. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Peyton, Embrey, Corie Jo, Aedan, Wesley, Evelyn, Abby, Griffin, Milly, Riley, Jesse, Amelia, Ben, Cy, Poe, and Juno. Above all, Jim was devoted to his family and took great joy in attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, school activities, and family gatherings.
Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He spent 25 years with the Lima Fire Department and also worked at Triangle Garage, Blodgett & Son Auto Parts, and Northland Lanes.
Bowling was an important part of Jim's life, and he was proud of achieving a 700 series. He also enjoyed racing and driving go-karts at Wards Raceway Park. When not bowling or racing, he spent time in the garage working on engines and repairs.
Jim enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling with his wife. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church and participated in the Blessing of the Bikes. Jim lived his faith quietly but deeply. His life reflected a hope anchored in the cross-a faith shaped by sacrifice, perseverance, and love, and one that now carries him home to peace and rest.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, services will be private, with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
