James Thomas Strano, known affectionately as Sonny, passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and was a resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, at the time of his passing.
James served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting on May 10, 1962, and achieving the rank of Corporal (E-4). He was known for his dedication, hard work, and commitment to those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Strano; his daughter, Stacy Knaggs; and his son, James Strano.
A private graveside service to honor James's life and military service was held at the West Virginia National Cemetery on February 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The ceremony was conducted with honors by the United States Marine Corps from Quantico, Virginia, along with the Marion County Veterans Council and the Earl Anderson Marine Corps League.
