James "Jim" Lee Stultz, 87, passed away on the evening of August 28, 2024, and joined his wife of 66 years, Shirley Jean (Austin) Stultz, who preceded him in death on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Jim and Shirley were loving parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents and are survived by their three children, son James A. and wife Billie, daughter Joyce and husband Anthony, and son Kent and wife Tammy.
In addition, Jim and Shirley are survived by seven grandchildren, Lindley and husband Derek, Meredith and husband Caleb, Layna and husband Donavan, Austin and wife Lindsay, Gregory and wife Corrin, Landon and wife Karlee, and Graham. Jim's family also includes four great-grandchildren, Emery, Madeline, Brooklyn, Adelyn.
Jim was born October 26, 1936 in Vigo County to Gerald and Gladys (Ferris) Stultz. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers George Stultz, Herb Stultz, Fred Stultz and David Stultz, and by his sisters Vera Weaver and Rose Williams. Jim is survived by his brother Paul Stultz and wife Carol, sister-in-law Elsie Stultz, brother-in-law Virgil Williams, sister-in-law Patty McCormick, sister-in-law Linda Secrest, sister-in-law Paulette Cottrell, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was dedicated to Shirley, his family, and his faith. He graduated from Wiley High School in 1955 and is remembered as a standout on the Wiley football teams of the early 1950s. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard and began working for General Telephone Company. He retired from GTE/Verizon and then after returning to work for Union Hospital for many years, he retired again. Jim was faithful in reading God's Word every day and in attendance of his local churches where he served in many positions with great commitment and joy. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball during the times that his sons played and well beyond. He was a loving and devoted grandfather who took great joy in supporting his grandchildren in their many activities whether it was sports, choir, plays or having fun in the backyard.
Arrangements will be handled by DeBaun Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and services on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Joe Gormong and Rod Maris officiating, followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
