James J. Sullivan III, 66, of Kingston, Pa., passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2025, in Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. He succumbed peacefully from complications of renal disease, which he courageously battled for a number of years.
He was born in Cocoa Beach, Fla., a son of the late James J Sullivan II and Betty J. Vanduzer Sullivan. James, who was known as "Jay" to family and "Sully" to friends, graduated in 1977 from Bishop Grimes High School, East Syracuse, N.Y. He received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Villanova University in 1981. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for the majority of his career as a mechanical engineer by Pall Trinity Micro, in Cortland, N.Y.
James, "Jay," "Sully" was known for his generosity and kindness to not only to his family and friends, but most everyone he met or came in contact with. He was an avid sports fan, with extreme loyalty to Syracuse University football and basketball, Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. He was a longtime SU season ticket holder and would enjoy regular rounds of golf and card games with a group of Syracuse friends. After his retirement, he moved to Kingston to help his brother, Matt, care for their late mother, Betty, at which point he began watching hours and hours of sports and Fox News.
James is survived by his sister, Patty MacKenzie and her husband, John, of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; brothers, Matt, of Kingston, Pa.; and John L. and his wife, Krista, of Salisbury, N.C.; two nephews: Dr. John MacKenzie Abrego and his wife, Tzeitel Abrego MacKenzie, of Astoria, N.Y.; and Stephen MacKenzie and his wife, Ashleigh; and a grand-nephew, George William, of Stratham, N.H.
Funeral services will be private for immediate family. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
