James Harvey Taylor

James Harvey "Jim" Taylor, 79, of Orem, Utah, passed away on December 22, 2025. A devoted husband, father, teacher, and artist, Jim will be remembered for his creative spirit, generous heart, and unwavering determination.

Jim was born on March 18, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Harvey Darrel Taylor and Barbara Alixe Brossard. He was the oldest of five children. From an early age, he displayed a deep love for art and entrepreneurship, interests that guided much of his life's path.

After graduating from Brigham Young High School in Provo, Jim served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia. He later earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Brigham Young University. He married Debra Halterman on October 28, 1972, in the Provo Utah Temple.

Jim began his career teaching art at junior high, high school, and university levels. He later became a full-time professional artist, specializing in watercolor and acrylic painting as well as bronze wildlife sculpture. Art was his lifelong passion.

During the final ten years of his life, Jim worked as a substitute teacher in local high schools, where he especially loved working with students.

Jim enjoyed fishing, chess, gardening, tennis, reading, and baking artisan bread. His grandchildren have fond memories of Grandpa Jim making "Texas-sized" pancakes and hot cocoa during their visits.

His family will deeply miss his infectious laugh and generous spirit.

Jim is survived by his wife, Debra Taylor; his daughter, Jamie Christensen (Bryce); his son, Levi Taylor (Alexandra); and his eight grandchildren: Hugh, Joel, Milo, Neil, Dane, Grant, Rylee, and Monroe. He is also survived by his four siblings, Susan Olson (Mel); Stephen Taylor (Ryna); Margaret Probst (Greg); Daniel Taylor (Julie).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at 1505 N. Timberwolf Trail (130 E), Orem, Utah 84057.
