Susan Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Premier Funeral Services - Orem on Jan. 5, 2026.
Susan Thomas Walker was born December 10, 1949, to David and Clista Thomas, and passed away surrounded by her immediate family on January 3rd, 2026. She treasured her brother John, who preceded her in death, and her dear sister Mary (Kevin) Mangum. Her family was always the light of her life. Sue and her husband, Kurt, shared a very special love. Their daughters Lisa (Peter) Blaser, Jane (Brad) Mangum, and her sons Barry (Ivonne) and Jordan (Maggie), thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, together with their husbands and wives are forever hers. Included in her extended family are the friends of grandchildren who often visited her and referred to her as "Grandma". She always had a smile and warm hug for everyone.

Susan and Kurt met and became very best friends while working together at the Hi-Spot Drive-In during her junior year of high school. Both graduates of Orem High School, they were married and began their never-ending story on June 16, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived, loved, worked and flourished in Utah County until moving to the Ann Arbor area in Michigan for 10 years, then to the Boston area for two more before retiring back to Lindon.

Susan's career was spent mostly in office administration, where she excelled and became fast friends with those she served. She also worked on the editorial board for LDS Living Magazine, consulted as an assistant editor for Wasatch Fine Living Magazine and wrote two adorable books for her grandchildren. She made sure each of her children and grandchildren knew proper grammar. She abhorred misspellings and improper grammar and punctuation, and constantly pestered her children when they misused the English language.

She excelled in making things beautiful in a house always filled and decorated with taste and joy. Each home in which she lived was a naturally welcoming place for family and friends, both old and new. She loved sports, arts, music, learning, and participated in all she could. Her artistic abilities showed in her Ward Roadshows, excellent calligraphic abilities, and gentle guiding of Kurt's woodworking ideas. She could "see" the angles and curves with which he struggled.

It was so with all their lives. She filled perfectly his voids, and he hers. Kurt understood and made way for her insightful ways. They never reached a decision without each other's blessing.

They were able to travel and enjoy many of the Earth's wonders. Italy was an especially fond memory, as were the many family trips to Disneyland, the sea shore, and professional baseball games.

Susan and Kurt had the opportunity to serve together in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and as mission leaders at the Transient Services Office in Provo. She loved these times, working to help others in both cases.

Sue was such a special lady to me, for my entire life. I loved seeing her at church, working on her at the dentist office or sitting by her as we cheered Macy and Smiles on as they played softball for many years. Sue will always hold a special place in my heart. Thoughts and prayers for her beautiful family!

Love,
Janneal Shumway Lyman
