James William "Jim" Teachenor, age 87, of Broseley, MO, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Born in Pollard, AR on December 12,1937, to Charlie and Alberta Teachenor, Jim lived a life of extraordinary kindness, contagious humor, remarkable talent, abounding love, and an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus. He never entered a room without brightening it-his charm, warmth, and quick wit made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
A gifted singer and musician, Jim spent his life sharing his music with the world, touching listeners from honkytonks to church houses. His artistry and influence earned him induction into the Rock-a-billy Hall of Fame, where he was honored as a "National Treasure," a recognition that meant more to him than words could express.
Jim served his country as a tank gunner in the United States Army's "Old Ironsides - 1st Armored Division" during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his military service, he built a long and accomplished career on the river as a First Mate and Coast Guard–licensed Pilot, a role he carried with pride until his retirement. He was a devoted member and servant of Ash Hill General Baptist Church, where he taught and sang regulary, rarely missing a service. Though his achievements were many, Jim's greatest impact was the love he poured into his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Teachenor; his stepson, Scott Williams (Kristy); his son, Jamie Teachenor (Jen); his stepson, Dustin Johnson and Katie Jaynes Johnson; and his stepson, Darren Johnson (Rachel). Jim was a devoted grandfather to Jenna Benton (Jacob), Jesse Johnson (Jarrica), Matthew Johnson, Charlie Teachenor, Lily Teachenor, Sam Johnson, and Lillie Johnson; and a proud great-grandfather to Otto, Eliza, Tate and Jemma. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Baxter (Bud), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Alberta Teachenor; his sister, Marie Teachenor; and his brothers, Gene Teachenor and Duane Teachenor.
Jim's presence will be missed deeply, but the legacy he left-through his music, his faith, and his love-will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him as he walks in eternity with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A public visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, at 6:00 p.m. at White-Sanders Funeral Home in
Fisk, MO. A funeral celebrating Jim's life will take place on Monday, November 17, at 11:00 a.m., also at White-Sanders Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, AR. Condolences: www.whitesandersfuneralhome.com
