James Terry Obituary
After graduating from Scotch Plains - Fanwood High School in 1952, Jim joined his father in the family plumbing business - E.L. Terry & Son Plumbing in Scotch Plains. Jim worked as a local plumber for over 50 years before retiring.
The Terry family settled in Scotch Plains in 1759 and there was a well on the family's property on Rahway Road – known for many years as "The Terry Well". The Terry Well was a historic Revolutionary War-era water source, used by both American and British soldiers during the Battle of Short Hills in 1777. Jim was the main caretaker of the well for most of his life.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Mary; and his brothers, Herbert and Elmer "Pete" Terry. He is survived by his nephews Curt and Peter; and his sister-in-law, Judy Glore Terry.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Saturday, January 3rd from 10 AM to 11 AM with services at 11 AM.
Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
