James Clifton Thomas, of Eva, Alabama, passed away on November 27th, 2025, at the age of 85. Mr. Thomas was born November 1st, 1940, to the late Ollie Mae Bush and Carl Willard Thomas.

Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Sharron R. Thomas; mother, Ollie Mae Bush Thomas; father, Carl Willard Thomas; siblings, Nellie Thomas Mayfield, Paul Douglas Thomas, Claude Alvis Thomas, Hazel Thomas Gober, Agnes Thomas Green, Willard Thomas, Jeanette Thomas Helms, Norman Thomas, Bobby Thomas, John Thomas, Ollie Carl Thomas, Beatrice Thomas Butler, and Bonnie Thomas Davis.

Those surviving Mr. Thomas include his sons, Howard Thomas and wife Jane, Keith Thomas and wife Nancy, Brian Thomas; and niece (adopted daughter) Marcy Stewart. James was the proud grandfather of Howard and Jane’s children, Chad (his wife Aimee), Kate Thomas, and Cole Thomas. He was also the great-grandfather of Chad and Aimee’s daughters, Cecilia and Annalise.

Mr. Thomas was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Eva, Alabama, a Freemason, and a former member of both the VFW and American Legion.

Mr. Thomas’s son Keith wrote the following words…

My father was the embodiment of American values and Christian morals. First and foremost, he was a Christian – saved by grace and by his belief in the death of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross and His resurrection by the power of God three days later. He was one of fourteen children and quit school to work on the farm and help support his family. He married at 17, my mother was 15, and he stayed married to her until the day she died – 57 years. He served a tour in Vietnam and retired a decorated veteran with two Associate’s Degrees and 30 years of service. The world is a dimmer and sadder place for the loss of his life.
