To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. Ecclesiastes. 3:1

James Walter Thompson was born in Robeson County, North Carolina on April 12. 1941. He was the son of Dallas and Helen Platt Thompson. He was raised in the town of McDonald in Robeson County, North Carolina. In 1960 he graduated from Hilly Branch High School and attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College. James was raised in a home where education was key. James was said to be the most studious of all his siblings. His favorite subjects were math and reading. In those days in college at A&T students were chosen to be "Teacher for a Day" and James earned that right each time. He was very intelligent. James worked several jobs before being employed with the city in the Public Service Section as a Parking Attendant. He enjoyed the interaction with the customers as he greeted them and took charge of possibly their most expensive possession, their automobile. He will be missed. James was given life on this earth for 84 years which far exceeds the promised three scores and ten.

James liked watching television especially Comedy Central with Cedric the Entertainer and Steve Harvey. James was a happy spirit, polite and always wore a smile. He was content with his life. "Laid back and Easy" was his stye. If he could help someone, he did. He was very instrumental in helping his son with his Math subjects while he was in school.

James was preceded in death by his parents brothers Wilson and Ralph.

James is survived by his wife Gertha Mann Thompson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, two sons Andre Smith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and James Thompson Jr. of Newark, New Jersey. He was the proud grandpa of five grandchildren: he also leaves to cherish his memory his siblings; Clementine Thompson McCormick (Hayward), Edith, Geraldine Robinson (Chester) Delma, Garland and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
