James E. Thoreson, known to many as Jim, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Rusheba Station in Rush City, Minnesota.

James Elmer Thoreson was born on August 1, 1938, to Ludwig and Elsie (Burg) Thoreson in St. Paul, Minnesota. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, dedicating many years to faithful and honorable service. His time in the Navy reflected his strong sense of duty, integrity, and commitment to others. After retiring from military service, Jim continued serving with distinction through his work with the National Cemetery System for ten years.

Jim is survived by his children Mark (Kim), Tina (John), Penny, Kelly (Kenny), Todd (Julie), Patricia (Clem), and Tamara (Ron). He was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ludwig and Elsie Thoreson; beloved wife, Sally Thoreson; and his sons, Eric Thoreson and Scott Thoreson.

Above all, Jim will be remembered for his deep love for his family and friends. His greatest legacy is the life of service, devotion, and kindness he shared—one that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will take place at 10:30 AM; Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
