James William Timoch , affectionately know as “Butch” was the beloved son of the late Kathlene and Robert “Nick” Timoch, He was the dear brother of Pete Timoch (deceased), Lisa Mahoney (Kevin), John Timoch (Erin), Joseph Timoch, (deceased), Matthew Timoch, Jason Timoch (Nancy), cherished nephew of Helene and Gary Hyvarinen, (deceased) Nina Hannum, Pete Conomea (deceased)(Daphne), James Conomea (Brandy) and Kevin Hannum, uncle, cousin, friend to many and dearest friend to Carolyn Lascko.
Born and raised in Cleveland, he was the oldest of seven children and the very best big brother. He was a graduate of John Adams High School, in Cleveland and an alumnus of the University of Akron, where he was deeply involved in campus life. He served as a residence assistant, yearbook staff, intramural sports staff and participant, and was a Delta Gamma Fraternity “Anchor Man.” Butch was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity where he served as chapter president and enjoyed singing in the annual Greek Life “Songfest” charity event.
Butch was a lifelong servant to others, a boy scout, a certified lifeguard who saved a girl from drowning. He was a Red Cross Blood Donor and always had a first aid kit for anyone in need. He was an Akron Firefighter/Paramedic and proudly served his community for 15 years, continuing a family tradition of firefighting.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Butch loved all sports and traveled extensively to attend the Olympic Games in person, he coached track and field for Cleveland Heights, Akron Buchtel and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Butch was a decorated decathlete in The World Police and Fire Games.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Timoch Family Endowed Award for Beta Rho at The University of Akron. A Celebration of Life will take place at THE RIPEPI COMMUNITY CENTER, 5784 PEARL RD. (AT SNOW RD.), SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at West Park Cemetery.
