James J. Tobin, III, of Malden formerly of Somerville, passed away on January 20, 2025. He was 63 years old. Born in Somerville, he was the cherished son of the late Christine M. (Browne) and James J. Tobin Jr.
James was employed as a Dispatcher for The Ride Transportation Service. Born and raised in Somerville, James was an altar server in the former St. Polycarp Catholic Church of Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High School, where he played football. Eventually moving to Malden, he was an active member of St. Joseph Church and he would assist in the organization in their annual St, Joseph Feast. James was active within the Malden community, especially working and assisting with the Eastern Middlesex Alcoholism Service. James was the devoted father of Colleen M. Bates and her husband Nicholas of Wilmington and the late Aimee Tobin. He was the adored grandfather of AivaTobin and Jordan and Bryson Bates. James was the dear brother of Christine M. Tobin of Sagamore, Michael J. Tobin and his wife Maria of Buzzards Bay and Brian J. Tobin and his wife Denise of Medford. He was the former husband of Debra L. (Angelo) Tobin of Waltham.
James's funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, MA on Saturday, January 25 at 10:45AM; followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 770 Salem Street, Malden, MA, at 12PM.
