James Eugene "Jim" Todd, 77, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Born on June 27, 1948, in Berkeley, California, Jim moved with his family to Cuba, Missouri at age 12 before settling in St. Louis, where he would make his lifelong home. A proud graduate of Cuba High School in 1966, Jim answered his country's call and enlisted in the United States Army. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War (1967–1968) as part of Company F, 2nd Aircraft Maintenance Battalion at the Army Aviation School, Elmendorf AFB, where he expertly maintained 68B20 turbine aircraft engines. He earned an honorable discharge in November 1970 and was awarded multiple honors including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Overseas Bar, ACFT Badge, and the Army Commendation Medal.
After his service, Jim returned home and built a fulfilling career as a crane mechanic-a career he pursued until his retirement in 2015.
Jim was many things: a devoted husband and father, a loving hands-on grandfather, and a loyal friend. A gifted woodworker, artist, and mechanic, he delighted in teaching his son and grandsons the intricacies of cars, knives, and firearms, always side by side in the garage or workshop. His greatest joy came from moments spent with family-and with Yorkie Jake faithfully by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Todd; son, Andrew Todd (Jamie); stepchildren Denise Maurer Jasso (Jose), Kimberly Maurer-Levi, and Len Maurer; and grandsons Grayson and Kayce Todd, Zachary Maurer, Adam B. Levi, and Nathanael Jasso. Jim was the middle son of the late Jack and Lorene Todd, and brother to Steve Todd (Gina) and Dwight Todd (Patti), as well as many nieces and nephews. His kindness and helpful spirit made him a treasured friend to many.
Jim will be honored with a public military honor service at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 9:30am.
