James Trantham, Jr Obituary
Sumter, S.C. James Dewey Trantham Jr. 69 went to be with the Lord Friday, June 21 at McLeod Health Clarendon. Born in Savannah, Georgia on June 25, 1954, he was the son of the late James Dewey Trantham Sr. and Betty Rotan Trantham of Sumter.
Famously known as Dewey, he graduated with honors from the Camden Military Academy. He was Platoon Leader and lettered in baseball, basketball, and football. Dewey lived one day at a time. A good ole Georgia boy, as he would refer himself to others, he enjoyed and lived the simple life. He never met a stranger and had a nickname for most everybody. He was laid-back and easy-going, and most of all a true southern gentleman. Many knew Dewey to be quite the character and left an impression on everyone he met. Dewey was happiest surrounded by his family, and friends. He loved the outdoors, being on the lake, or at the mountains. His hobbies included woodworking, and always had his tool-belt ready to help others build things. His legacy will continue with his two grandsons that he loves so much.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Ewing (Justin "Derek" Ewing), two grandsons, Wyatt James and Logan Wade Ewing, one sister Brenda Sherman (Don), nieces Tina Cotton, (Richard), and Kelsey Cotton, his ex-wife Marta Trantham, whom he was still very close to, and her family of Sumter, life-long best friend, Charlie Strickland, (Kris) of Sumter.
Dewey is preceded in death by; his nephew, Eric Bayne, and life-long friend, Bush McLaughlin. In tribute to Dewey's memory, his family request one last gesture to "Send Me a Postcard". A basket will be placed near his portrait for you to drop your postcard into. If you do not have one, a post card will be available at the registry book. If you cannot attend the service, please mail to Dewey Trantham, 3040 Lens Heavins Rd.,
