James "Jim" Travis, 72 of Mallard, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Palo Alto Country Hospital in Emmetsburg. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Mallard United Methodist Church in Mallard. Interment will take place at Rush Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Mallard. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Mallard. www.lentzfuneralhome.com
James (Jim) Travis, the son of Wyman Sr. and Roberta (Weaver) Travis was born August 28th, 1952, in Fort Dodge, IA. He spent his childhood on a farm around Gilmore City, Iowa, with his parents, brothers Wyman Jr. and Gary and his sister Barbara. Where he enjoyed riding horses, and farming with his Dad. They moved to a farm near Truesdale, Iowa where Jim attended and graduated from the Albert City-Truesdale High School in 1970. In his senior year, they moved to a farm near Mallard where He started farming with his father. He continued to farm for 53 years.
In 1972 he met the love of his life Deborah Carlson, from Albert City. They were married in the Our Saviors Lutheran Church on August 20, 1972. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Scott and Jamie. The couple resided in and near Mallard for 52 years.
Jim enjoyed dancing, listening to Elvis Presley, watching his boys play sports, his tractors, and enjoyed farming, even with the ups and downs of farming. He also loved playing cards, checkers, and board games with his children and grandchildren. Jim will be well remembered for his one line sayings and comebacks.
Jim is survived by his wife Deb, his sons, Scott (Missy) of Mayville, WI, and Jamie (Bernadet), of Oconomowoc, WI, grandchildren: Cole of Washington, DC, Connor, Claire, Braden, Nolan, Addison, and Jackson. His brother Wyman Jr (Becky) of Curlew, IA, sister-in-law Sarah Travis of Curlew, IA, brother in-law Delmar Carlson of Albert City, IA, sister in-law Darla Vonnahme of Algona, IA, and brother in-law Doyle Carlson (Sherry) of Vernal, UT. As well as host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wyman Sr. and Roberta Travis, Sister Barb Hoffman, brother-in-law Bruce Hoffman, brother Gary Travis, and sister in-law Loretta Travis, Parents-in-law, Roy and Verva Carlson, Sister and brother in-law Denise and Steve Sassman, sister in-law Jean Carlson, and brother in-law Dan Vonnahme.
