James Abel “Jim” Treiber, son of Viola (Bower) Treiber and Louis H. Treiber, was born on April 30, 1936, in Danbury, Iowa. A farmer at heart, he had a profound appreciation for the value of people and hard work. Jim was active in music and sports during his high school years, graduating in 1954. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army. He served with distinction in the 801st Engineers and was stationed in England, France, and Germany, broadening his horizons yet always carrying a piece of home in his heart. The untimely passing of his father in 1962 saw Jim taking over the family farm. It was during this time, on September 26, 1964, that he married Janice Torgerson of Soldier, Iowa, beginning a partnership that would flourish over 59 years. In 1972, embracing a change, Jim joined Penn Corp Financial, where he embarked on a successful career selling insurance and investments. Two years later, in 1974, he accepted a position as district manager in Fargo, ND, moving his family to Moorhead, MN. Jim dedicated over 20 years to the company, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. Upon retirement, Jim did not idle; he poured his energy into his hobby farm at Rollag, MN. There, his connection with the land continued, a testament to his enduring spirit as a farmer.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years; his daughters, Michelle (Wes) Nelson of Vergas, MN; and Jacquelyn (Chris) Donahue of Edina, MN; his son, Douglas (Tammy) Treiber of Maple Grove, MN; his grandchildren Jon, Chalsey, and Jamie Falk, Samuel and Sophia Treiber, and Katelyn Donahue. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and one brother. He cared deeply for his loved ones, ensuring holiday gatherings were meaningful and fun, nurturing a sense of togetherness that will forever be cherished. As we bid farewell to Jim, we remember a life well-lived—a man who was a farmer at heart, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us in the days ahead.
