James Francis Tremmel

James Francis Tremmel was born September 20, 1947 in Sigourney, Iowa the son of James Malcom and Frances Darlene (Hubbell) Tremmel.

He was raised in the Sigourney area and at the age of 17, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served our country with honor and following his honorable discharge, Jim returned to Iowa and trained as a Journeyman in the plumbing business. He became a Journeyman in multiple trades and eventually moved to Washington state and operated a plumbing business with his Uncle Jerry on his father’s side. Jim would make his way back to the Midwest to Omaha, Nebraska. He became a long-haul truck driver which he did for over 10 years. In 1987 Jim began working for Marriott International where he started as a facilities tech and grew into senior management finishing his 23-year career as Head of Engineering and Building Facilities. Post retirement, Jim returned home to Iowa where he spent his last 15 years in Lynnville, IA until his death.

Jim enjoyed the study of history, especially relating to the military. He appreciated music and loved to dance, and mushroom hunting in the spring. He will be remembered for many qualities but largely for his giving, candor and unquestionable loyalty. While he loved all his family, Jim and his sister Pam Milligan were especially close with her living minutes away.

Jim passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center, in Knoxville, at the age of 78 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Frances; granddaughter, Hope and siblings: Marie, Larry and Terry.

Those left to honor Jim’s memory include his children: James, Jill (Pickern) and Matthew; grandson, Brody Pickern; siblings: Pam, Cheryl, Phyllis, Diane, and Angie along with and many other family members and friends.

Jim has been cremated and family services will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date TBD with full military honors.
