James Varner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Proctor's Mortuary - Beaumont on Jan. 11, 2026.
James Earl Varner 74 passed away Jan. 08, 2026.

Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church 3755 Fannett Rd Beaumont, TX. Visitation will begin at 12Noon until Funeral at 1PM.

James was born on October 25, 1951, to the late Dorse McHenry Varner and Edna Mae Kyle Varner. He was the second of five children. James was born in Bessie May, Texas, and was raised in Mount Union, Texas, where he learned the values of faith, family, and hard work.

James accepted Christ at an early age and was raised in the Church of God in Christ. His faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life. At the time of his passing, he was a faithful member of Cathedral of Faith in Beaumont, Texas.

James graduated from Kirbyville High School in 1972 and later earned his degree from Lamar Tech in 1974. He spent most of his adult life living and working in Houston, Texas, where he built a life rooted in dedication and love for his family.

He was a proud and devoted father to two children, James Kenner Varner and Carlyn Varner, and a loving grandfather to Keerstyn and Madison, who brought him great joy.

James is survived by one brother, Oscar Varner (Lynn), and two sisters, Doris Varner-Bennett and Dorthy Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, McHuey Varner. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.

James had a deep love for music and ministry. He played the guitar and sang faithfully in the choir, blessing many with his voice and spirit. He was often requested to sing "Living He Loved Me," a song that reflected both his faith and the way he lived his life.

James Earl Varner will be remembered for his gentle heart, strong faith, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, his music, and the many lives he touched.
