James Vaught Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Conway Chapel on Feb. 17, 2026.
Myrtle Beach-

James C. Vaught, Jr. passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Born on August, 7, 1938, in Mullins, South Carolina, to parents James C. Vaught, Sr. and Essie Louise Capps Vaught.

Mr. James C. Vaught, Jr. passed away leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, faithful service, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. For 23 distinguished years, he served in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. A proud Vietnam veteran, he carried his service with humility and honor, embodying dedication to his country both in and out of uniform.

Beyond his military career, James lived life with passion and precision. He enjoyed motorcycle and sailboat racing, embracing both the thrill of speed and the serenity of open water. A competitive shooter, he earned recognition for his exceptional speed and accuracy. He also found joy in flying airplanes, always drawn to the freedom of the skies.

A man deeply centered in his faith, James was a devoted and proud member of his Korean Methodist Church. His faith guided his steady spirit and shaped the way he lived each day. He was known for his calm demeanor and observant nature. He never spoke a bad word about anyone and never sought attention or praise. If something needed to be done, he quietly stepped in and took care of it; never making a fuss, simply serving where he was needed.

Above all, James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was truly blessed to have him; a steady presence, a source of wisdom, and a gentle example of integrity and love. His life was one of service, faith, and quiet excellence, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Mr. Vaught is survived by his loving wife of years Hye Kyong Vaught; daughter, Samantha (David) Vaught-Simpson; grandson, Ren Vaught; brother-in-law, Bill Jennings; siblings, Andrew Vaught, Linda Carmichael, Larry (Anne) Vaught, and Janet (Wayne) Crowley.

A reception visitation will be held from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway, on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
