James L. Walsh *HYDE PARK - James L. Walsh, 82, of Hyde Park, died Friday, December 14, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Born in Providence, RI on May 28, 1925, he was the son of James Leo and Lillie Margaret King Walsh. On April 29, 1950 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New York City, he was married to the former Barbara Ann Simpson, who predeceased him on May 24, 1994. He served in the US Army during World War II. An area resident since 1952, he had worked as an electrical engineer for IBM, Fishkill, retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. He graduated from Hofstra University with a Master's degree in Physics and was also a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a Bachelor's degree. Mr. Walsh had been a member of Regina Coeli Church, Hyde Park, the IBM Quarter Century Club and was a volunteer fireman with the Hyde Park Fire Department. Survivors include son, Stephen J. Walsh and wife, Roberta Walsh, Poughkeepsie; daughter, Mary Jane Walsh and husband, Roger Rowlett, Hamilton, NY; son, David S. Walsh and wife, Sharon Walsh, Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Margaret Van Norstrand and husband, James Van Norstrand, Round Rock, TX; and grandchildren, Matthew Luce, Caitlin Walsh and Megan Walsh, all of New Mexico and Eric and Ellen Van Nortsrand of Texas. Calling hours will be held at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 from 4-6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wed., Dec. 19, 2007 at 11:30am at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, with Rev. Michael Palazzo officiating. Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Hyde Park Fire Dept. The Walsh family wishes to thank the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center's CTICU for the care given to their father.
