James Waring Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 11 to Feb. 18, 2009.
WARING, James Chaffin, 85, of Richmond, died peacefully on February 7, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Markgraf Waring; three children and four grandchildren, Dr. James C. Waring Jr., his wife, Barbara, and their children, Sarah W. Cheplak and her husband, Dave, and James C. Waring III; Mark A. Waring, his wife, Jane, and their sons, Matthew Waring and Blake Waring; and Dr. Nancy W. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Architecture and had a design-build firm in his hometown of Wilmington, Ohio, for 10 years. He joined Reynolds Metals, working in research and development of building products, moving to Richmond in 1958, and retiring in 1986. He was an Eagle Scout, scout-master and active in scouting for most of his life. He was a member, among others, of The Jamestowne Society and the Richmond Host Lions Club, and through the Lions worked with the Salvation Army. Jim was active in his Presbyterian churches, serving as Clerk of Session, Elder and Deacon, and working in many other ways. He will be remembered for his easy smile and gentle manner. There will be a memorial service at Second Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 21, at 3 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart of Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 6809, Richmond, Va. 23230, or The Salvation Army, 2 W. Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

Betsy & family,

Jim was among the Greats. We have met many years at the same table Lions Club on Wednesdays. He made a world of friends. He set a high example for us to try to follow. I want you to know that you are on our minds and in our prayers as you try to adjust to a new way of life without him.

Sincerely,

Lion Norman D. Graham
