James Henry Watts Jr., 83, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at his home in Brunswick, MO. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
James was born on September 26, 1941 in Brunswick, MO, the son of James Henry Sr. and Emma Virlien (Banks) Watts. He attended the BK Bruce school in Brunswick, MO. On April 14, 1963, James was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lillia Mae Jordan. Together they were blessed with two children, James III and Ellena. They also raised their granddaughter, Brittany, who they both considered to be their third child. After 47 years of marriage, Lillia Mae preceded James in passing on March 1, 2011.
James worked for the city of Brunswick as a Crew Chief for more than 20 years. After his retirement, he began working for the Shelter Workshop in Keytesville, MO, which is where he worked until June of 2025.
James loved spending time with his family. He also loved his animals, playing poker, and sitting downtown visiting with friends. He was a member of the A.M.E. Church in Brunswick and was also a longtime member of the Masons and the Shriners Hospital.
James is survived by his two children, James Watts III and Ellena Simmons, both of Brunswick, MO; six grandchildren, Brittany Gauthier and her husband Curtis, Whitney Saunders, Michael Watts, Kiara Watts, Weston Charles-Gallo, and Elijah Watts; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Gauthier, Jordan Gauthier, and James Watts V; and he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma Watts; his beloved wife, Lillia Mae; one grandson, James Watts IV; and one sister, Emma Lue McDowell.
