James R. Welch

James R. Welch, age 69, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026.

James Welch was born May 2, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Jay and Beverly Welch. He grew up in East Detroit with brothers Robert and Thomas. As a youngster Jim loved baseball, hockey, and golf that remained a passion for his lifetime.

Jim was part of the Hollywood Market family and raised to be an entrepreneur. His first endeavor was a plant shop in Birmingham during his high school years leading to a lifelong love of plants and gardens. Jim opened a meat distribution company then moved to independent grocery stores in Taylor, Farmington Hills, and Royal Oak before finishing his career with Northern Lights and Jim's Flowers in Madison Heights.

Jim's love of the Lord, Jesus, called him to co-pastor a church and share the Gospel for 40+ years. His faith led him to support charitable organizations including The Jesus Film Project, Samaritan's Purse, Detroit Rescue Mission, and Salvation Army. He served the Lord in love, faithfully until he was called home to heaven this week.

Jim and his bride and partner, Dange, raised 3 children. Karalena is 23, Grant, 21, and nephew Robert, 31 (Linley). He is Papa Jim to Ieva,3 and Rory, 7 months.

He will be greatly missed and forever be remembered by family and friends.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 4-8PM, at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy, MI.

Memorial Service Wednesday, March 4, 12PM at the funeral home. Visiting begins at 11AM.

Memorial donations may be made to Jesus Film Project.
